Ribbon Ladybug Clippy Tutorial

I have been seeing these a lot around the place lately and they seem to be super popular and cute so I thought I'd give it a shot and put together a tutorial on how to make one yourself! They are a little bit fiddly but they are definately worth it! The finished clip is about 2 x 1 inches in size. You are more than welcome to sell items made from this tutorial but you must attribute this blog please :) This tutorial may not be replicated, partly copied, reproduced or sold.

You don't have to stick to the usual ladybug colours either, experiment with a few different combinations and see what you can come up with! This is fantastic for using those little bits of ribbon you don't have any other use for...enjoy!! Xx

I used a 2 inch metal toothed alligator clip for this tutorial, but you could use a snap clip or a bobby pin or you could glue your ladybug to a headband! If you haven't lined a clip before, it is really very easy! Cut a length of ribbon a few cm longer your clip. Glue your ribbon on the top side of the clip, tuck the overhanging ends underneath the clip and glue in place. Make sure you seal all your ribbon ends with a tealight candle before hand, it prevents the ribbon unravelling later and makes the whole thing look a lot neater. Oh! you'll also need your hot glue gun!

Your ribbon pieces should be the following sizes:
Outer body piece: 8 cm I've used a red grosgrain with black polka dots

Inner body piece: 6cm

Head piece: 4cm For this I have used a scrap piece of plain black satin ribbon.

2 x Antennae pieces: 5.5cm long.  I am using a really cute black satin ribbon with little decorative loops down the side

First we're going to make the body. This is done by taking your two polka dot ribbons and glueing the ends together as shown in the photograph below 

Then you're going to glue the smaller loop, right side up to the bottom of the larger loop as shown

Then take your 4cm length of ribbon to make the head. Centre it over the top of your loops and glue in place. 

Tuck the ends underneath and glue in place. Your lady should look like this so far! 

The next step is to make the antennae. This is very simple, take one piece of antennae ribbon and just dot a little hot glue on the underside of one end. Roll this piece forward to form a small loop and glue onto the right side up ribbon.

Glue each antannae on the underside of your ladybugs head. To attach to your clip, dot some glue under the head and press onto the clip. And you're done! You now have a super adorable little ribbon ladybug hair accessory!
